Frequently asked questions
The questions Tucson families ask us most, answered plainly. If yours is not here, call and ask. We would rather you did.
Cost
What does Placita's placement service cost my family?
Our placement guidance is free. Placita is compensated by the care community when a placement is made, the same way a tenant does not pay a leasing agent. You get an advisor's time, expertise and tours at no charge, and because we are paid the same whichever community you choose, we have no reason to steer you anywhere. One exception worth naming: if you want us to handle a full ALTCS application for you, that carries a fee based on how complex the case is. We quote it up front, and plenty of families never need it.
About us
What makes Placita different from other senior placement services?
We give you personal, compassionate service and a deep network of top-rated senior care communities to find the right fit for your loved one. In practice the difference families notice is that an advisor tours with them in person rather than emailing a list of names, and stays reachable after the move.
Do you contact me repeatedly if I reach out?
No. There is no mailing list and no drip campaign. An advisor follows up, and if you tell us the timing is not right, we leave you alone until you come back.
Process
How does the placement process work?
It starts with understanding your loved one's unique needs and preferences. We then research thoroughly and bring back the options we believe genuinely fit. Usually three, not thirty. We arrange the visits and support you through move-in and after.
How do you vet the care communities you recommend?
We run background checks and keep evaluating of the communities in our network to ensure they meet our standards of care. Our advisors are in these buildings constantly, which tells you more than any inspection report.
Can we visit the communities before deciding?
Yes, and we strongly encourage it. We arrange the tours and an advisor walks them with you, asking the questions most families do not know to ask. Whenever there is time, we suggest touring at a mealtime.
What if the placement doesn't work out?
We are committed to your satisfaction and will work with you to find alternative care options if the initial placement does not meet your expectations. This is why we stay in contact after move-in rather than disappearing once the paperwork is signed.
Urgency
How quickly can you help in an emergency?
Often the same day. Hospital or rehab discharges are a large share of what we do. Call at any hour and a live person picks up. During the day you will usually reach an advisor directly, and after hours we take your information and someone calls you back first thing in the morning. Call (520) 771-5919.
Paying for care
Do you help with ALTCS?
Yes. The Arizona Long Term Care System is the funding path most Tucson families do not realize they may qualify for. We help you understand whether it is worth pursuing, coach you through the application, and place your loved one with a community that accepts it. Not every community does.
Service area
Which areas of Tucson do you serve?
All of the Tucson metro. North Tucson and the Catalina Foothills, East Tucson and Tanque Verde, West Tucson and the Tucson Mountains, and South Tucson, plus Oro Valley, Marana, Vail, Sahuarita and Green Valley.
Levels of care
How do I know which level of care my loved one needs?
Three questions get you most of the way: can they safely get to the bathroom alone, are their medications being taken correctly, and could they be left alone overnight without you worrying? Our two-minute care check-in goes further, and a 15-minute call with an advisor will make it clear.
